Metadata for Building the MultiMedia Patch Quilt

چکیده
Huge amounts of data available in a variety of digital forms has been collected and stored in thousands of repositories However the information relevant to a user or application need may be stored in mul tiple forms in di erent repositories Answering a user query may require correlation of information at a semantic level across multiple forms and representations We present a three level architecture comprising of the ontology metadata and data levels for enabling this correlation Compo nents of this architecture are explained by using an example from a GIS

Quilt: A Patchwork of Multicast Regions
Network bottlenecks, firewalls, restrictions on IP Multicast availability and administrative policies have long prevented the use of multicast even where the fit seems obvious. The confusion around multicast poses a problem for large-scale pub/sub-based applications that need blazing speed even across WAN networks. There are a number of multicast protocols, but none is universally available. Th...
متن کاملA Metadata Integration Assistant Generator for Heterogeneous Distributed Databases
This paper describes a metadata interchange approach for semi-automated integration of heterogeneous distributed databases. Our system prototype uses distributed metadata to generate a GUI tool for a meta-user (who does the metadata integration) to describe mappings between master and local databases by assigning index numbers and specifying conversion function names; the system uses Quilt as i...
متن کاملBuilding Scaleable and Smart Multimedia Applications on the Semantic Web
In the design and implementation of Semantic Web multimedia applications (SWMA), real-world requirements have not yet been widely addressed. This work contributes to building scaleable and smart SWMA. Regarding scalability and expressivity, three main areas are researched: (i) processing of metadata sources on the RDF-level, (ii) formal representation of multimedia vocabularies, and (iii) multi...
متن کاملBuilding User Models from Observations of Users Accessing Multimedia Learning Objects
We report our work towards building user models of learner’s development based upon evidence of their interactions with an e-learning website composed of multimedia learning objects. Essentially, this involves three elements: effective metadata for each learning object; analysis of each user’s time spent with each learning object; reasoning about each individual’s knowledge of the course that i...
متن کاملAutomated Metadata in Multimedia Information Systems: Creation, Refinement, Use in Surrogates, and Evaluation
Improvements in network bandwidth along with dramatic drops in digital storage and processing costs have resulted in the explosive growth of multimedia (combinations of text, image, audio, and video) resources on the Internet and in digital repositories. A suite of computer technologies delivering speech, image, and natural language understanding can automatically derive descriptive metadata fo...
